Short answer: sweatpants should sit comfortably at your natural waist without the drawstring doing all the work, give you room to sit and squat without pulling across the seat or thighs, and end at your ankle (joggers) or just touch the top of your shoes with a small stack (straight and wide-leg). If they sag at the crotch or drag on the floor, they're too big; if they pull across the thighs, size up.
Waist: snug, not tight
The elastic waistband should hold the pants up on its own. The drawstring is for fine-tuning, not for pulling in a waist that's two sizes too big. You should be able to slide two fingers under the band. If the waist fits but the rest is tight, size up and use the drawstring.
Rise and seat: room to move
The rise is the distance from the crotch seam to the waistband. A good fit lets you sit down without the waistband dropping at the back or the fabric pulling tight across the seat. A slightly lower crotch is normal on relaxed and baggy styles, but if the crotch hangs near your knees, the pants are too big.
Joggers: tapered with cuffs
Joggers narrow toward the ankle and finish with a ribbed cuff that should sit at or just above the ankle bone. A small bunch of fabric above the cuff looks good; a big puddle means they're too long. They're the sportiest shape and look best with sneakers. Try the Essential Cuffed Joggers or the Heavyweight Fleece Joggers.
Straight-leg: clean and versatile
Straight-leg sweatpants have an open hem and the same width from knee to ankle. The hem should touch the top of your shoes with a light break, without dragging on the ground. They look closest to trousers and work with sneakers, loafers and boots. See the Mineral Wash Straight Leg Sweatpants.
Wide-leg: relaxed with a stack
Wide-leg sweatpants should feel roomy from hip to hem and stack slightly over the shoe. The fabric should fall straight down, not cling. Keep the top more fitted or cropped to balance the volume, or go full oversized for a streetwear look. Try the Essential Wide Leg Sweatpants or the Pleated Wide Leg Sweatpants. Styling ideas are in How to Style Wide-Leg and Barrel-Leg Sweatpants.
Length by height
- Under 170 cm: choose cuffed joggers or a cropped straight leg so the hem doesn't puddle.
- 170–185 cm: most regular inseams work; pick the shape you like.
- Over 185 cm: check the inseam in the Size Guide – wide-leg and straight styles with a longer inseam avoid an accidental crop.
How to pick your size
- Measure a pair of sweatpants you already like: waist (relaxed), hip and inseam, laid flat.
- Compare with the measurements in the Size Guide on the product page – every ZELX product has exact numbers in cm and a height-based recommendation.
- Between sizes? Size up for wide-leg and baggy looks, stay true to size for joggers.

FAQ
Should sweatpants be tight or loose?
Neither. They should be loose enough to sit and squat comfortably, but not so loose that the crotch sags or the hem drags on the floor.
Where should sweatpants end?
Joggers should end at the ankle with the cuff on or just above the ankle bone. Straight and wide-leg sweatpants should touch the top of your shoes with a small break or stack.
Do sweatpants shrink?
Cotton fleece can shrink a little in hot water or a hot dryer. Wash cold and air-dry to keep the length – see How to Wash a Hoodie, the same care works for sweatpants.
Should I size up in sweatpants?
Size up for a baggy or wide-leg look, or if you're between sizes at the thigh. For joggers, stay true to size so the cuffs sit at the ankle.
